About the Music we play on Classic Rock FM

“Classic Rock” is an interesting mix of music, generally made up of good, old rock and roll songs. While it sounds easy, there is a problem in that no two people will agree on what the boundaries are for rock, let alone which songs are “good”.

Classic Rock FM makes no bones about our selection of the music we play. We are all over 50, and actually lived through the 60s, unlike most of the people programming the Classic Rock FM stations you hear on the radio. We believe that unless you lived through this decade then it is almost impossible to put the music into any kind of context, given what was going on at the time. Most of us actually heard the artists that make up the Classic Rock FM playlist play live.

While some may argue the inclusion or exclusion of a specific song, no one who really knows Classic Rock will argue that what we play isn’t cut from the heart of rock and roll. Most of what we play had a significance that went beyond being mere entertainment when it was current. This music was more like a soundtrack for the political and social development of our generation.

Some of what we play is blatantly crass, commercial pop that just happened to rock along nicely. Other songs hold a special place as they not only rocked, but also carried a message that was significant at the time. Sadly some of the artists represented here are no longer with us, but their music and spirit lives on, and Classic Rock FM is perhaps the most fitting tribute that we can pay them – to play their music along side their contemporaries, in a context that takes us back to a time and place that was important.

If you’re not over 40, then you probably won’t get it. This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t listen, it just means that there are some who will have a deeper appreciation of what we play more than others.
